RV Purchase Pitfall #6: Thinking You Can Get A Better Deal By Shopping Out Of The Area Dealers Open any national RV publication and you'll see ads blaring headlines like "Lowest Prices In The Country", "We'll Beat Anybody's Deal", and "Never Undersold". Quite frankly, most of these dealers know they will never see you again for service. Unfortunately, when you get home, eventually you'll need warranty work or serviced performed. However, the local dealerships may not want to or may not be able to have much to do with you. Look at it from the dealerships perspective. Who do you think I (or any dealer) feel obligated to give priority service to? The customer who bought from me or the person who bought somewhere else and thinks I should drop everything and give him the same prompt service? If you bought from me, wouldn't you want to know that you come first? So don't be surprised when you buy elsewhere, then look for service locally and find yourself being put at the end of the line, which could mean a 3 or 4-week delay! If you don't mind driving hours for service, and if you don't mind waiting for parts to be special ordered, and if you don't find any value in establishing a long term relationship with a local dealer who understands that building a successful, lasting business comes from exceeding customer's expectations, so they buy from them again and again, then go ahead and shop the countryside. But don't say you weren't warned! You lose all rights to moan and complain if you get ripped off or get stuck needing something close to home |
